Don’t Like My Country? Get Out!

By Christian Jessen - March 21, 2011 @ 08:49:02 - 20 Comments »

Living a couple of years in Lima will give most people a true love/hate relationship with both the city and the country. But trying to criticizes the country, culture or people in general will often be met by comments like “go back to your own country!”. Here is another generalization about Peruvians: they prefer to ignore the bad things – and if you point it out, you are a bad guy.

Using Foursquare To Discover Santiago

By Christian Jessen - March 17, 2011 @ 17:10:23 - Comment on this »

Since I bought my iPhone 4 back in December, I have been playing around with Foursquare. Since I haven’t had a 3G plan for my phone yet, it has just been when I was at places with WiFi, usually Starbucks or similar places. However in Lima, I mostly just used it to check-in and play around, share where I was and what I was doing – the general stuff. Now I found some new uses for Foursquare, which makes me love my iPhone even more.

Adios Peru – Hola Chile!

By Christian Jessen - March 3, 2011 @ 10:19:20 - 1 Comment »

Almost 1 year ago, I took a crazy decision while travelling through Lima about living in Peru. The plan was to take at least a year in Lima, and as it is possible to see from my earlier post, I was quite excited about staying in Lima in the beginning. A few weeks ago I took a decision in the same league, just as sudden and crazy as the last time.

Lock Your Doors! Paranoia in Peru

By Christian Jessen - October 27, 2010 @ 16:32:20 - 4 Comments »

This is another “fun fact” about Peru; the general paranoia. Maybe there is really something about it, but the Peruvians in general do not trust anyone – besides their own family. The trust in other people simply does not exist; and it makes an evil spiral, because it then is really rare you can trust or count on anyone in Peru. (more…)

“The Cloud” – an expression becoming more and more popular the last couple of years, defining the new ways of using computers. Realizing the other day, that I am moving more and more into the clouds, I thought I would try to summarize my usage of “the cloud” and where I see this going.

Dont drink and vote!

By Christian Jessen - September 29, 2010 @ 14:48:28 - 2 Comments »

On Sunday the Peruvians will vote for the local mayors of their districts and regions, it its strikes me a bit funny, that not only do they get fined if the don’t vote, but they are also not allowed to drink all weekend. Apparently the government has so little trust in its citizens, that they need several laws to force them into voting. (more…)

This post is about how everything changed for me in 2009, and changed my life 180 degrees once again. Starting 2009 I just wanted to travel for half a year, and then go back to the army – never in my wildest dreams did I plan to stay in South America, let alone Peru.

Why You Should Disable Google Web History

By Christian Jessen - @ 11:25:31 - 4 Comments »

Not even a week ago, Google introduced Personalized Search for Everyone in the Google search results.
