The swine flu is still a big topic, especially here in South America. I read recently that Mexico City should be back to normal, and have called the big alarm off, but medias still keep writing about cases of swine flu here in Peru.

Yesterday Living in Peru wrote that Peru now has 16 confirmed cases of the swine flu – also called Influenca A, AH1N1, H1N1 or “iFlu”. The latter is a name from my old biology teacher, who wrote is as a joke on Facebook, and pointed to the mode set by Apple and their iPod. I love this name, and from now on swine flu will always be called iFlu for me. Big thanks to my biology teacher, who has a great sense of humor.

But the latest media shows that the world, and especially Perú still is very nervous about the iFlu. Earlier Andina wrote that airport workers in the Jorge Chavez airport now must wear masks and gloves to protect themselves against the iFlu. This recent case of students returning with iFlu from the Dominican Republic made 18 schools close down for the week, resulting in one of my friends who work the the Markham school here in Lima having a week off. Thumbs up for that.

As far as I read, the iFlu can be cured with medicine, so I’m not really worried too much. I think the bigger problem is in the poorer districts of Lima, where people may not have money enough for medicine. If the iFlu catches an outbreak here, and it really transfers between humans, this could be a big problem.

If I catch the iFlu, it will most likely be on my way home to Denmark. I will be taking a vacation in August in Denmark, and will be travelling via Puerto Rico over New York before i hit Copenhagen. If its possible, I’d take atleast a few days to a week in Puerto Rico, so who knows if I could be the next case of iFlu in Denmark. If thats the case, I think my old biology teacher would have a great time studying a “live example” of the iFlu! I cross my fingers – maybe I could even get some media attention…

Do you fear of the iFlu? Live in a area where there are reported several confirmed cases of iFlu? If so, give me your opinion in the comments. To be honest I dont really feel afraid from this iFlu thing. To me it seems like the media just made it worse than it is.

First of all, let me say that I have respect for all none-smokers, and the fact that you cant smoke in the plane, or around the airport when its inside.
But why the hell can’t they atleast make one or two small smoking areas, in a huge airport?

Now I’m sitting in a almost empty terminal, waiting for my flight to Zurich. I’m gonna be flying or in an airport for the next 24 hours, or something like that. I’d like to get atleast one or two breakes in those 24 hours, where I can take a cigarette and relaxe..

Like I got time to walk all the way outside, then back in through security, when I’m landing in Zurich for like an hour! It is increadible, that they cant even build a couple of small class rooms, where smokes can stand and take a cigarette. What is the next step? Anti-unhealthy-food policy, because of fat people in the US?

I can’t wait to get to South America – at least they had smoking rooms in the airport in Santiago!
